Nigeria international striker, Ikechukwu Uche scored his fourth league goal of the season for Villarreal as the Yellow Submarine put bottom club Córdoba to the sword at Estadio Nuevo Arcángel on Sunday.
Uche’s finish on 70 minutes bordered between the fortuitous and the sublime.
He reacted in lightening fashion to reach a poor Jonathan dos Santos corner with the base of his boot and his connection from the most acute of angles beat a despairing Juan Carlos Corral in goal for Córdoba.
That goal on Sunday means Uche has now scored the most number of goals by any African in Spain’s top flight since the beginning of the 2013/14 season.
He netted 14 league goals last season and has already bagged four this term.
No African has scored more goals than Uche this term. Cameroonian midfielder Stephane Mbia, who is in the books of Sevilla, is Uche’s closest challenger this season with three goals.
Uche is also his club’s joint top scorer this season as the other player tied on four goals for Villarreal this season, Luciano Vietto, managed his total in 12 games while Uche needed just 11 games to reach that figure.
Uche, a decorated Nigeria international striker, has scored 19 times in 49 appearances for the Super Eagles since making his debut in 2007.  (supersport.com)
