Enugu – Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has pledged to partner with the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) to entrench accountability and transparency in the financial administration of the state.
Ugwuanyi made the pledge in Enugu on Thursday when he received in audience the state chapter of the association in his office.
According to him, members of the association constitute 95 per cent of professional accountants in the civil and public service of the state.
The governor listed some of their members in the state service to include the Accountant-General, the Auditor-General of the State, Local Governments and a number of Permanent Secretaries and Directors of Finance in the state.
“With such a strong presence in the bureaucratic structure of the state, members of the association have a key role to play in the effective implementation of the fiscal and other policies of government.
“I wish to assure you of the readiness of the government to partner with the association toward the achievement of its objectives more especially those of them that would be of benefit to the people of Enugu State,’’ he said.
Earlier in an address, the state Chairman of the association, Princess Roseline Egbo, said that members of ANAN constituted over 90 per cent of professional accountants in Nigeria and in Enugu State.

She affirmed the readiness of the association to identify with the administration following the governor’s aggressive infrastructure development of the state within a short time of his administration.
“We wish to be identified with your government by working closely with you and by offering our services as professional accountants, having been part of the team that has been responsible for the prompt rendition of annual financial accounts of the state,’’ she said.
Egbo noted that the association upheld transparency, accountability and prudence in accounting processes and procedures which the state is noted for.
The chairman said that ANAN provided a platform for training and re-training of accountants for capacity building and development of members like any other professional body.
The association requested the governor to assist it with the office accommodation and a bus for effective operation in the state. (NAN)
