DONETSK – Pro-Russian separatists on Monday said nearly 90 per cent of voters in the Donetsk region had backed independence in an election that defied international condemnation.
Election Commissioner, Roman Lyagin, said that the final numbers would be released late on Monday.
Report says that 89.7 per cent of Donetsk voters had backed independence from the central government in Kiev.
Meanwhile, results from the neighbouring region of Lugansk were not yet reported.
Report notes that there were no international observers of the election that included 6.5 million voters. (dpa/NAN)
