NEW YORK – The UN mission to the Central African Republic (CAR) has launched an investigation into allegations that one of its soldiers sexually abused a child, UN spokesman, Stephane Dujarric said on Friday.
“The head of the mission has notified local authorities and the government of the troop-contributing country where the soldier came from about the allegations.
“Measures have been taken to protect the alleged victim, who has received the appropriate care,’’ Dujarric said.
The allegation against the UN mission came as France was embroiled in accusations of its troops sexually assaulting children in CAR between December 2013 and June 2014.

While the French troops were not under UN command at the time the abuses allegedly took place, the UN alerted French authorities of the reported assaults in July 2014 after the allegations had surfaced during a UN internal review.
In spite of a preliminary investigation in 2014, France did not open a judicial inquiry into the allegations until early May after a UN aid worker leaked the report to the media. (dpa/NAN)
