Khartoum – The Sudanese Foreign Minister, Ibrahim Ghandour, on Tuesday said that he will join seven other African Foreign Ministers to discuss with the UN Security Council (UNSC) on June 9.
Ghandour said that the discussion will base on the position of African countries opposing the International Criminal Court (ICC).
He said that the Security Council would first hear a report by ICC Prosecutor-General, Fatu Bensouda, and then would hear the African committee report on its position towards the ICC.
The African Union has called on its member states to disregard the ICC arrest warrant against President Omar Bashir, saying the court has become politicised as it targets only African heads of state.
The ICC issued a warrant of arrest against President Bashir on alleged war crimes in the restive region of Darfur, near the borderlines with Chad and Central African Republic.
The Sudanese government argued that the court’s decision is politically motivated and vowed to disregard it. (PANA/NAN)
