UN seeks $111m in aid for starving North Korea

Bangkok –  A UN report has said that the world body seeks to deliver 111 million dollars in food and other aid to North Korea in 2015 the UN report said on Thursday.

“The impoverished country is in the midst of a food crisis with 70 per cent of the population, around 18 million people, not having access to sufficient food and nutrition,.

“Approximately, 1.8 million children, pregnant and lactating women and elderly are in need of specialised nutritious food designed to combat malnutrition.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]

“Of the 111 million dollars, 87 million dollars will be spent on food and nutrition initiatives,’’ the report said.

According to the report, another 17 million dollars will be earmarked for health, education, clean water, sanitation and hygiene initiatives.

Report says over six million North Koreans also need essential health care, including vaccines and other medicines. (dpa/NAN)
