Hamdi made the appeal through a statement released on Thursday, on the eve of the restart of Algiers peace talks that bring together representatives of the Malian government and rebel groups.
He said that MINUSMA’s role in the peace process which has entered a crucial stage is to help Mali by impartially facilitating meetings between protagonists.
“Restoration of peace will depend on Malians themselves.
“The presence of MINUSMA is an opportunity; we shall continue partnering with Mali by supporting the efforts of Malians.
“We are here to help the government and all Malians to achieve sustainable peace while respecting territorial integrity and the republican nature of the Malian State,’’ the UN official said. (Xinhua/NAN)
