Lagos – For allegedly stealing N500, a 26-year-old unemployed man, Afose Imole, was on Tuesday hauled up before an Abule Egba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Racheal Williams told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 23 at Karaole Estate, Agege, a suburb of Lagos.
According to her, the complainant, Mr Abiola Anifowose, got to his room and met the door opened with all his personal effects scattered.
“When he noticed movement in the room, he went to the back and saw the accused.
“He shouted for help and his neighbours helped to apprehend the accused,” she said.
Williams said the sum of N500 only was stolen from the complainant’s room.
The offence, she noted, contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Adenike Shonubi, granted him bail in the sum of N500 with a surety in like sum.
Further hearing in the case has been fixed for May 4. (NAN)
