Lagos – A 25-year-old unemployed man, Kamoru Yusuf, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into an apartment and stealing property worth N150,000.
Yusuf, who resides at No. 8, Olorunisola St., Oshodi, Lagos is being tried for burglary and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Uche Simon, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov.15, at No. 10, Odofi St., Ijaiye, Ojokoro, Lagos.
He said that the accused burgled the residence of one Mr Jude Akamigbo and stole his property valued at N150,000.
“The accused unlawfully entered into the complainant’s apartment less than an hour after the complainant travelled for a business trip and stole his valuables,” he said.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Simon said that the accused burgled the complainant’s apartment to gain entrance.
“The accused came with sophisticated weapons to damage the burglary doors to gain entrance into the flat to steal.
“He stole one flat screen television and a complete game machine, PS 2, all valued at N150,000.
“The accused was caught by the complainant’s neighbours while he was trying to escape with those stolen items.” he said.
The offences, Simon said, contravened Sections 285 and 305 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 305 provides that if convicted of burglary, an accused is liable to seven years imprisonment while section 285 prescribes three-year jail term as penalty for stealing.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offences and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs Y.R. Phinero, adjourned the case till Jan.5 for mention. (NAN)
