Lagos A 24-year-old unemployed man, Samuel Metu, on Wednesday appeared before an Ojo Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged burglary and theft.
Metu, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Uche Simon, said that the accused committed the offences on July 25 at 2.00 a.m., at God is Good Motors terminal, 1st Avenue, Festac Town in Lagos.
“The accused, with three others still at large, broke into the accountant’s office at God is Good Motors through the window and stole N1.6 million in cash and a laptop valued at N20, 000.
“After the accused successfully stole the items and money, he made attempt to also break into another office in the premises.
“He was, however, apprehended by security guards.
“The accused was handed over to the police at Ajangbadi station for interrogation,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 305, 308 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that if found guilty, the accused can be jailed for three years.
The Magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Abolarinwa adjourned the case to Oct. 25 for trial.
