Unemployed man docked over alleged theft of pair of female shoes

Badagry (Lagos State) – An unemployed man, Obinna Obiora, was on Wednesday dragged to a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged stealing a pair of shoes, worth N5,000 .

The accused person, who resides at No 5, Kappo compound, Topo, Badagry is facing a charge of stealing the shoes from Mrs Godwin Okoro

The prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 1, at Topo Bus Stop in Badagry area of Lagos State, when he took Mrs Okoro by surprise.

“She was walking on the street to board a bus heading to town, when the accused accosted her and started a conversation with her.

“In the middle of the conversation, the accused overpowered her, took her off her feet, seized her shoes, and ran away with it,” he said.

Uko said that the offence contravened Section 278 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the offense.

Counsel to the accused, Mr Yomi Alade, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20, 000 and a surety, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Further hearing in the case has been fixed for Sept. 11 (NAN)
