Unemployment: analyst urges FG to focus more on agriculture

Lagos – Mr Nnemeka Obiaeari, the Chief Executive of Tarox Capital and Advisory Services, Lagos, has advised the Federal Government to focus more on agriculture to solve the problem of youth unemployment.

Obiaeari, who is also a financial analyst, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday.

He said that government should also pay attention to industrialisation to solve the endemic problem.

“The industrial parks, which are scheduled to be constructed, have the capacity to ameliorate joblessness among the teaming youths.

“The agriculture sector should be improved on to curb the unemployment problems,” Obiaera said.

He also advised that government should also focus on non-oil resources, particurlarly lead, to improve the nation’s earnings and create jobs for many young people.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]

“Government should use the appropriate fiscal policies to support the exploration of lead in the country as it is a gold mine in the international market.

“The infrastructure that will support the facilitation of the natural resources must be in place by the government to enable it realisable,’’ he said.

NAN recalls that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed concern over increasing graduate unemployment in the country.

He said the country will be toying with grave dangers should the trend persisted.

Obasanjo said this at the 10th Anniversary and Convocation Ceremonies of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. (NAN)
