Ekiti Youth Parliament has advocated for a one-year vocational and technical education for secondary school leavers in the state.
This, according to the parliament, will make the youth to be self-reliant and serve as panacea for the employment challenges currently facing the country.
This was part of the resolutions reached by members of the parliament at the plenary, held at the state House of Assembly complex on Wednesday in Ado-Ekiti and presided over by its Speaker, Oluwatobi Fatunla.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the plenary was part of the activities marking the 2021
International Youth Day.
Contributing during the debate, Fatunla stressed the need for parents and guardians to encourage their children and wards to embrace technical education and vocational training.
The parliament also solicited for sponsorship from well- meaning individuals, corporate bodies and non-governmental organisations as well as governments at all levels for capacity training for youths in the state to boost self-reliance.
The youth parliament also resolved that, at least, 40 per cent of people in government at all levels should be youths under the age of 40.
It emphasised the importance of youth inclusion in governance, saying that this could not be over-emphasised.
The parliament also passed a vote of confidence in Gov. Kayode Fayemi for what it described as his giant strides in the development of the state.
It, however, called for provision of subvention to all registered youth organisations in the state.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr Michael Awopetu, highlighted the activities slated to mark the International Youth Day to include: lecture, symposium and general discussion, at the Trade Fair Complex, Ado-Ekiti.
Awopetu added that there would also a road show and walk from Textile junction to the trade fair complex by all the youth organisations in the state.
