UniAbuja VC harps on normalcy in institution

Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof. Michael Adikwu – The Vice-Chancellor, , Prof. Michael Adikwu, on Friday pledged to restore normalcy to the institution.

He made the pledge while receiving an award of excellence from the delegation of the Joint Campus Committee of the Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), FCT Chapter, in his office.

The institution has been facing challenges bothering on accreditation of some of its courses and strikes in the last 10 years.

However, Adikwu enjoined the students to be creative and innovative to enable them excel in their educational pursuits.

“I urge you students to be creative and innovative in any area you find yourselves. You should think of changing the negative things in the society to .

“Society cannot survive without students, I promise to be consulting with the students’ union to know other challenges confronting the university,’’ he said.

He called on researchers to see the outbreak of Ebola virus as opportunity to enhance efforts in finding vaccine for its cure.


The vice-chancellor also promised to support the forthcoming NANS convention in Asaba, Delta, between Sept. 11 and Sept. 14.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee of NANS, FCT Chapter, Mr Adediwura Adesina, appealed for the reinstatement of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the university.

Adesina said the students had been praying for a “messiah” that would restore normalcy to the institution.

“We are here to appreciate the purpose of your election; we have been following it up with prayers that God would choose the best person for the university,” he said.

On his part, the President of the suspended SUG, Mr Olajengbesi Pelumi, urged the vice-chancellor to execute his transformation agenda for the institution to the letter.

Pelumi pledged that the students’ union would support him (VC) to achieve such agenda.

Highlight at the occasion was the presentation of Mr Oluwole Jacob, an aspirant for the National President of NANS in the upcoming election.

Jacob was presented by Mr Akoshile Muktar, NANS’ Director of Campuses. (NAN)
