Benin, The University of Benin (UNIBEN) produced 19, 472 graduates within two academic sessions, the Vice chancellor of the institution, Prof. Oyuki Oshodin, said
Oshodin said this on Tuesday in Benin at a news briefing to announce the 39th and 40th Convocation Ceremony of the institution scheduled for Nov.19.
He said that the graduates were produced by the university in the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 sessions.
Oshodin said that a breakdown of the figure showed that 10, 735 graduates were produced by the university in 2011/2012 session while 8, 737 graduated in 2012/2013 session.
The vice chancellor further stated that a total of 118 graduates would be conferred with first class degrees for the two sessions during the combined convocation ceremony.
He said that the list of first class graduates was made up of 48 for the 2011/2012 session and 70 for the 2012/2013 session.
Oshodin attributed the combined convocation to the strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Nigeria Universities (ASUU) in 2013.
Oshodin, whose tenure as the university VC will end on Nov. 30, also used the opportunity to reel out his achievements in the last five years. (NAN)
