UNITED NATIONS – Souleymane Diabate, a senior UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Central African Republic (CAR), on Wednesday in New York, called the international community for help as children in CAR were witnessing terrible violence.
He said the situation of children in the area was becoming very fragile and unpredictable.
Diabate said the urgent attention became imperative because latest UNICEF report indicated that 194 children have been maimed and killed since December 2013, including through gruesome beheadings.
“You look into their eyes and they are just lost, but it is not just the violence, it is the sheer brutality, chopping, maiming,’’ he said.
He added that the entire population of CAR was badly affected by the crisis, especially children.
“It is a nightmare but unfortunately it is all too real,’’ he said. (Xinhua/NAN)
