Gusau – The United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has opened up and provided basic healthcare services to 250 Hard-To-Reach (HTR) settlements in Zamfara.
The Sokoto Zonal Officer of UNICEF, Mr Mohammad Muhiuddin, disclosed this in Gusau on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Muhiuddin said that UNICEF’s intervention which started in 150 settlements had been expanded by 100 settlements this year.
The zonal officer said that the 100 settlements were drawn from Bakura and Bungudu LGAs of the state.
He noted that the initial 150 settlements were located in the six local government areas of Gusau, Tsafe, Kaura-Namoda, Shinkafi, Talata-Mafara and Maradun.
He said that all the communities involved would begin to enjoy comprehensive maternal, newborn and child healthcare services from UNICEF.
The official said that well-trained and UNICEF-motivated outreach teams would be sent to provide medical services for resident of the rural communities.
He added that UNICEF was committed to providing high quality healthcare, nutrition, water, sanitation, hygiene and basic education to the citizens.
Muhiuddin advised the state government to have strong collaboration with the fund to assist the most vulnerable with basic amenities.
