Katsina – The Katsina State Chapter of Nigerian Medical and Health Workers Union, said it spent more than N25 million to provide scholarship and vehicles for its members.
Alhaji Usaini Tanimu, the state chairman of the union told newsmen on Sunday in Katsina that some of the members were sponsored to acquire higher education to enhance their efficiency.
“The union gave N20 million as scholarship to its members who gained admission into various tertiary institutions in Nigeria and Niger Republic,’’ he said.
According to him, over 5,000 members have benefited from the scholarship scheme and more will be sponsored.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
The chairman explained that the move was not only to monitor the performance of members but also report any problem to the state government for immediate action.
Tanimu commended state government for awarding contracts for the renovation and equipping of three general hospitals in the state.
He called for implementation of reports submitted by different committees set up to look into problems facing health sectors.
The chairman expressed the readiness of the union to work with the government to improve health care delivery in the state. (NAN)
