Union urges incoming Govt. in Ebonyi to improve workers’ welfare

Abuja –  The incoming government in Ebonyi has been implored to ensure workers’ welfare topped its priority list of programmes.
The Ebonyi State Chapter of the Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), made the call in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.
The statement, signed by Mr Leornard Nkah, of NULGE in the state, said there was for the new government to declare a state of on workers’ welfare.
According to the statement, there is need to promptly pay minimum wage to workers as at when due.
also demanded that backlog of promotion arrears and leave allowances be paid, including the provision of buses to subsidize cost for workers.
“Our expectations are that the incoming government will end the gross misappropriation of local government funds’’, the statement said.
It further called for an overhaul of the Local Government Service Commission to ensure the eradication of mediocrity and nepotism in the local government service.
The statement pointed out that improvement in the health and agriculture sectors of the local government economy was crucial to the development of the state.
The union expressed its determination to partner with the incoming government to ensure rapid development of the state.
