KAFINHAUSA (Jigawa) – The Jigawa State Government has earmarked N143 million for payment as compensation to farmers whose lands were acquired for the construction of the Jigawa State University, Kafinhausa.
The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Muhammad Ribadu, who stated this when representatives of the host communities visited him in Kafinhausa, explained that payment would commence soon.
“The state government has provided N143 million to compensate landowners and payment will commence soon,” he said.
Ribadu added that the university would also engage in road maintenance in the area as part of its social responsibility to the communities. [eap_ad_1] He therefore urged the people to exercise patience and cooperate with the university to ensure the orderly conduct of the payment.
In a remark, spokesperson of the communities, Alhaji Sulaiman Yunusa, commended the state government for the siting of the university in the area.
Yunusa, who is also the District Head of Kafinhausa, said that the money to be paid as compensation would empower the farmers to engage in alternative business.
He listed the affected communities to include Kafinhausa, Adalawa, Dinkari, Zolawa and Kwalabati-Biyu.
The Jigawa State Government established the university in 2013.(NAN)
