Imo State Police Apprehend IMSU Student in Connection with Tragic Campus Fatality.
The Imo State Police Command has taken into custody a 21-year-old student from Imo State University, Francis Marvellous, following the alleged fatal stabbing of a final-year student, Marvellous Kingsley, from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
The incident, which occurred on the university campus, unfolded during a dispute between the suspect and members of the university’s Man O’ War unit.In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, it was revealed that the IMSU undergraduate was arrested in response to a distress call.
The suspect reportedly admitted to the crime during interrogation, acknowledging that he used a concealed knife in a heated argument with the victim.Contrary to circulating speculation suggesting the involvement of a herdsman, Okoye firmly dismissed such claims.
He emphasized that the misinformation aims to provoke unnecessary intertribal conflict between the people of Imo State and northerners residing in the state.The tragic incident resulted in the loss of Marvellous Kingsley’s life, with his body recovered and transported to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.
The suspect is now under police custody and is expected to be arraigned following the completion of the investigation process.Regrettably, additional casualties were reported during the police response, with an asthmatic student losing their life, another sustaining a broken leg, and several others sustaining injuries. The student community expresses dissatisfaction and contemplates staging a protest in response to the incident.
