ABUJA – The Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) said on Sunday that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did a competent job in the conduct of Osun governorship election.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Adedeji Salau, said in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the outcome of the poll was a true reflection of the choice of the people.
Salau commended the electorate for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner during and after the election.
UPN said the election had demonstrated that with adequate security, INEC was capable of being a fair umpire that could make the votes of the electorate count. “UPN believes in free education at all levels and free health services for the masses,’’ Salau said.
While congratulating Aregbesola, the party enjoined him to provide free education and healthcare services for the people of the state in his second term.
On his part, UPN’s National Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Sokoto, told NAN on phone that the vote polled by the party in the state was an indication that the UPN was growing.
“You know we (UPN) pulled out of the governorship race on Aug. 6, but the people still gave us some votes.
“This shows that we (UPN) is steadily growing as the party is enjoying widespread support in the country,’’ said Sokoto. (NAN)
