UYO (Sundiata Post) – In order to promote and encourage excellence, the management of University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) has honoured no fewer than 20 members of staff of the health institution for exhibiting dedication, honesty, diligent and punctuality at work.
At the 2015 end of year thanksgiving service and the award ceremony held at the UUTH Chapel the recipients smiled home with cash prize and plaques.
The chief medical director of the tertiary health facility, Professor Etete Peters, who personally presented the awards, explained that the honour was in appreciation of their contributions toward the progress of the institution.
He said the beneficiaries of the special recognition award selected across various departments or units in the hospital exemplified themselves by showing total commitment to work and ethics stressing that the award was also to spur other staff to work harder.
“It is part of the end of year activities; hospital is a team work in delivery health care to members of the public. In every system there should be reward mechanism for the workers. The management recognized the dedicated staff and decided to honour them”, he said..

Peters commended the workers for their positive contribution in the development of the hospital noting that no matter the wind of temptation the hospital was still making progress and waging stronger.
“Health is about team work, as one person cannot do it alone. Team work and unity are paramount things to deliver the goal in the health sector. We will continue to move the health institution forward despite the dwelling economy the nation is facing.
“The workers have been so resilient to work. Management cannot do it alone but with the total commitment and cooperation of all we are able to flow in the progressive direction”, Prof Peters stated.
He linked the less number of strike recorded in the hospital in the out-going year to constructive negotiations with various industrial unions in the institution and solicited the same cooperation and understanding from the staff in 2016.
