In what will come across as a really heartbreaking development, a fire outbreak has reportedly engulfed some parts of the popular Balogun Market in Lagos Island destroying valuables worth millions of naira.
Some of the traders who arrived at their shops on Thursday morning with the hope of a promising day in anticipation of the festive season sales were heartbroken seeing their shops burnt, Vanguard reports.
The cause of the fire was said to be unknown at the time of filing the report.
When SaharaReporters contacted the Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Adekunle Ajisebutu, he said he had yet to get a formal report on the incident.
“I am yet to see such a story, I will find out and get back to you.”
Barely some days ago, shops at the popular Computer Village market in Ikeja, Lagos State were razed in a fire outbreak.
According to the Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Adekunle Ajisebutu, the fire outbreak emanated from one of the shops.
“There was a fire incident at 18, Otigba Street, Computer Village, Ikeja early hour of today. The fire engulfed a shopping complex.
“As soon as the report was received, firefighters were contacted and they arrived immediately. Policemen were drafted there to protect the Firefighters and others.
“The fire has been put out successfully. No life was lost in the incident. However, valuable properties which estimates are not yet known were destroyed,” he said.
Property worth millions of naira were said to have been destroyed in the incident.
