Port Harcourt -Total E and P Nigeria said on Wednesday that it had stopped the export of crude oil through its Obagi-Rumuekpe pipeline in Rivers.
The Deputy General Manager, Media & Public Affairs at the company, Mr Charles Ogan, said in a statement in Port Harcourt that an abnormal situation was observed as oil from Obagi was not received at Rumuekpe metering station.
Ogan said that the situation was noticed during crude oil expedition on Aug. 16.
“Expedition was immediately stopped and a helicopter over-flight was carried out, which revealed oil spill and fresh excavations on the pipeline right of way,’’ he said.
Ogan said that relevant authorities had been informed, adding that due to the volatile nature of the area and the security concerns, the company was working with security agencies to secure the location and provide safe access for intervention teams.
