VC decries inadequate research in education sector

ILORIN – The Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete, Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’allah, has decried the inadequacy of research and other empirical studies in the country’s education sector.

Na’allah said this in llorin on Thursday while speaking to newsmen.

According to him, research remains expedient not only to broaden the horizons of students in the country but also to pave ways for innovative initiatives.

He said that this would boost the pedigree of the country in science and technology for sustained development.

Na’allah said the Kwara State University was planning a research conference that would hold next month to garner the contributions of private and public researchers.

This move, he said, was for discoveries that would enhance the development of education in the country.

The university administrator, speaking on agricultural development , said that all the students of the institution were being empowered under the ‘Farm to Wealth’ programme.

This was with the sole aim of preparing them to use agriculture for wealth creation, he said.

Na’allah said that KWASU was also determined to step up its community-service outreach for positive impact on its immediate community and in other parts of the state.

The vice -chancellor, commenting on his expectation from the incoming administration, urged Nigerians to put up concerted efforts geared toward curbing widespread corruption in the country.

Na’allah urged the incoming administration to provide basic infrastructure like that would fast-track development in the country.

It must give priority to improving the power, health, education and other critical sectors as a precursor to meeting the expectations of Nigerians, he said. (NAN)
