BAUCHI – Some residents of Bauchi on Monday expressed concern over the attitude of some road users who carried rods and pipes on their vehicles without fixing indicators.
A cross section of people who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) over the matter, observed that such act was becoming too rampant in Bauchi metropolis.
They said such behaviour had caused a lot of accidents, and needed to be addressed.
Alhaji Ali Amin, a resident of old GRA quarters, said he could have lost an eye when a motorcyclist carrying pipes, lost control.
“I was riding my motorcycle behind the person carrying pipes without the normal red cloth used as an indicator, when suddenly he stumbled on a speed-breaker (bump) on the road.
“ I managed to avoid him, but the pipe narrowly missed one of my eyes. I am therefore calling on the authorities concerned, especially the FRSC, to do something about the menace,” he said.
Malam Aliyu Musa, a trader, said the trend was becoming rampant because the culprits were not been adequately penalized to serve deterrent to others.
According to him, motorists and motorcyclists carry pipes and the rods without indicators and nobody challenges them.
“These people carry these things in broad daylight and have been causing damages to car screens and even injuring other road users.
“It is high time that the FRSC started arresting anybody carrying such goods without the red cloth as an indicator,” he said.
Reacting to the development, the Public Enlightenment Officer of the FRSC in the state, Mohammed Kolo, told NAN that the command would soon start taking action.
“The command will do something about it and those caught in the act will face the full wrath of the law,” he warned. (NAN)
