Mr Buhari Aliyu, Assistant Director, Planning and Research, VIO, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Kaduna that 25, 000 of those arrested were tricycle operators.
According to him, 3,000 of the offenders are drivers of mini buses, while the rest 43,000 offenders are drivers of private and commercial vehicles.
Aliyu said most of those apprehended had no valid vehicle documents and were made to update their

He said that a lot of the tricycles apprehended had fake number plates, while the mini buses violated the state colour for intra state commercial transport service.
The director said vehicle inspection officers have been directed to redouble efforts in 2015, to ensure that motorists plying roads in the state conform to traffic rules and regulations.
He urged motorists to regularise their vehicle particulars, saying that taxi cabs and buses should be painted in the state colour of yellow-green-yellow.
Aliyu said painting the vehicles was also important in ensuring security of passengers.
He noted that the ban on use of commercial motorcycles had greatly reduced traffic accidents in the state, and advised motorists to always observe traffic rules so as to ensure safety of passengers on the road.
He cautioned vehicle owners against patronising touts while obtaining vehicle documents, warning that anyone caught would be prosecuted. (NAN)
