Sokoto- Voting in Thursday’s APC gubernatorial primary election in Sokoto State has begun.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that voting commenced with the 147 delegates from Binji Local Government of the state.
The election is being presided over by officials of INEC and the members of a four-man electoral panel deployed to the state from the party’s headquarters.
The panel is being chaired by Mr Khalid Bolaji, with Hajiya Fati Mohammed as Secretary.
The acting Chairman of the party, Alhaji Usman Danmadamin-Isa, told NAN that 3,000 delegates from the 23 local government areas of the state are participating in the poll.
Bolaji promised that the panel would give a level-playing ground to all the aspirants.
“we will ensure justice and fairness in this all-important assignment.”
NAN reports that five aspirants, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, are contesting in the election.
The rest are incumbent Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial Zone, Sen. Umaru Tambuwal (APC-Sokoto) and Prof. Bashar Lawal, a don of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
The rest are Alhaji Yusha’u Kebbe and the past Chairman of the state House of Assembly Commission, Alhaji Aliyu Sanyinna.
It was, however, observed that the poll was going on peacefully, with an elaborate arrangement by all the security agencies and INEC.
Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State and Tambuwal are among notable members of the party and aspirants monitoring the election.( NAN)
