SOKOTO- Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North), on Sunday in Sokoto dedicated his victory at Saturday’s supplementary election to the electorates.
INEC declared the two-term senator as winner of Saturday’s supplementary election in the district and returned him elected for a third term.
Wamakko, former governor of Sokoto State polled 141,448 votes to defeat the candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Munir Dan’Iya, who scored 118,445 votes.
Speaking with newsmen, Wamakko, appreciated the people of the state particularly APC supporters for their commitment during the three elections that took place.
“Our party’s victory is an indication of the people’s will. I want to assure the entire good people of Sokoto State that with their support and prayers we will achieve our promises of good governance.
“APC is the party recognised by the people of Sokoto State and Nigeria, as such we want to assure you that your sacrifices and show of love will never be compromised,” he said.
In another development, INEC also declared Sokoto State’s Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the Senatorial supplementary election for Sokoto South district.
Tambuwal told newsmen in Sokoto that his victory should serve as a lesson for those looking for his downfall.
The governor polled 100,860 votes to defeat the APC candidate and incumbent Sen. Danbaba Dambuwa who scored 95,884 votes.
The PDP in Sokoto State has felicitated with Tambuwal and all other flag bearers of the party.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Malam Hassan Sanyinnawal, in a statement expressed gratitude to God for the victories recorded by the party.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that with the election results declared by INEC on Sunday, the APC won the governorship seat and 20 seats out of the 30 seats in the House of Assembly.
It also won two senatorial seats and eight seats out of 11 House of Representatives seats.
The ruling PDP in the state won 10 House of Assembly seats, one senatorial seat and three House of Representatives seats. (NAN)
