Lagos – The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAM) has said it will mobilise 500,000 votes for the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Chairman of AWAM, Mr Oladipo Egbeyemi, said this on Wednesday in Lagos during a rally in Agege, organised by the association in collaboration with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
Egbeyemi said that the rally was to reiterate the association’s commitment toward taking Lagos’ cleanliness to the next level.
He said that the support for Sanwo-Olu was necessary because the governorship candidate was passionate about waste management.
According to him, Sanwo-Olu has promised to support the waste managers and take Lagos waste management to the next level.
”We have actually given Sanwo-Olu a proposed waste management memo of what we expect of him, the way forward, the next level for waste management.
”He has promised to take us back to the lost glory and make us internationally recognised waste managers.
”One of the things in the memo is that we are going to create many Transfer Loading Stations (TLS). We have only dumpsites now, but we want to have engineered landfill sites, which is what is obtainable internationally.
”We are going to create a recycling system that will lead from Waste-To-Wealth and not Waste-To-Waste.
”What we have now, we are going to multiply it by 1,000 times and you will see a Lagos you have not seen before, with regards to waste management,” he said.
Mr Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, said at the event that AWAM had been able to define what election meant through the gathering of the stakeholders.
Obasa said that there had been hiccups in waste management in the state but it would be a thing of the past after the election on Saturday, March 9.
”We will take Lagos back to the clean state it is known for. Immediately after the election, there will be no more refuse on the roads.
”This can be possible if we come out en masse and vote for APC on Saturday,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu, the APC governorship candidate, commended AWAM for rally and mobilisation for the party.
Sanwo-Olu who was represented by his running mate, Dr Olufemi Hamzat, urged the waste management stakeholders to vote for APC in Saturday’s Gubernatorial Election.
He urged Lagos residents to eschew bitterness and avoid violence. (NAN)
