ABUJA – The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), on Friday, reiterated its commitment to ending insurgency and defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria, regardless of any odd.
The position is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by Maj.-Gen Chris Olukolade, the Director of Defence Information.
The statement followed the recent briefing by the DHQ to the Joint Committee on Defence of the National Assembly, on the security situation in the country.
Olukolade assured that the military would work its talk to bring the security situation under control and defeat the rampaging terrorists.
He urged Nigerians not to lose hope or be disenchanted, but remain steadfast and supportive of the military. [eap_ad_1] The director said steps were being taken to ensure the success of the counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
He added that “in the light of the current challenges in the counter-terrorism efforts in the North East, which has understandably elicited a sense of apprehension among citizens and even foreign allies, we want to urge citizens to remain steadfast.
“We welcome all the concerns shown by Nigerians and a section of the international community following the increased menace and activities of terrorists,.
“It is also necessary to reassure all that the Nigerian Armed Forces is more than ever determined and committed to the defence of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria.
“It is not only the pride and reputation of the military that is at stake, but that of the entire nation.”
Olukolade said that “the military is fully conscious of its obligations to the Nigerian state and remains willing and ready to perform its duties with utmost diligence.” (NAN)
