ABUJA – Technical Director of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF), Lawrence Iquaibom, on Friday said the federation was planning to organise a national open weightlifting championships in Lagos in March.
Iquaibom told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the championship would be an opportunity for the federation to discover talents for various international weightlifting championships.
He said the various international events were scheduled to hold later in the year.

“We plan to organise a national open championship which will be used to discover new and good athletes who will represent the country in some international championships.
“We have the All-Africa Games coming up in Congo Brazzaville, the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa and the World Championship in the U.S.
“The national championship will hold in Lagos and we are expecting between 170 and 200 weightlifters to attend,’’ Iquaibom said.
The technical director also said the federation was still fine tuning preparations ahead of the tournament. (NAN)
