Lagos – A 25-year-old welder, Ibrahim Kakaki, on Friday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a cell phone worth N33,000 and N16,000 cash from a pedestrian.
Kakaki is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ajaga Agboko, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with one other still at large on Dec. 25 at Abraham Adesanya Roundabout, Ajah in Lagos State.
Agboko said that the defendant accosted the complainant, one Mr Matthew Awuni and collected his Tecno Spark phone and the N16,000 in his wallet.
He said that the complainant saw the defendant some weeks later while passing the area where he was attacked.
Agboko said that the complainant raised an alarm which led to the arrest of the defendant.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years’ imprisonment for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years’ jail term for conspiracy.
The magistrate, Mr T. A. Anjorin-Ajose, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Anjorin-Ajose adjourned the case until Feb. 3 for mention.
