Abuja (Sundiata Post) – The United States said on Monday it will continue to support Israel to prevent any escalation in hostilities with Iran.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said Israel wouldn’t have to defend itself alone against Iran’s oppression.
He disclosed this at the start of a meeting with Iraq’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mohammed Ali Tamim.
Blinken, who called Iran’s actions unprecedented, said: “We don’t seek escalation, but we’ll continue to support the defence of Israel and to protect our personnel in the region.
“What this weekend demonstrated is that Israel did not have to and does not have to defend itself alone when it is the victim of aggression, the victim of an attack.”
Over the weekend, Iran launched a barrage of over 300 drones and missiles at Israel, in retaliation for the April 1 strike on Iran’s consulate in Syria that killed some of its generals.
However, most of the missiles and drones were intercepted with the help of the US, France and other allies.
