ABUJA – Paul Ozor, General Manager, Rangers Intl. Football Club of , said on Friday that club was in pursuit of the 2014/2015 league title or the Federation Cup in spite their ’s slow start.

Ozor told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the team was relying so much in the ability of its coach, Kelechi Emetole, to lift either of the major titles up for grabs this season.

He said the popularity and experience which Emetole, popularly called “caterpillar’’, had earned over the years, was what the club needed to excel this season.

“You know the coach we have `Caterpillar’ Emetole has been a federation cup specialist and I believe that we will target any of the federation cup and the league title, if not the two.

“Emetole has been in the league. He has won trophies and he is a good disciplinarian; I just believe in him.’’

The Rangers general manager, however, said that the players were owed two months’ salary but assured that it would not distract the team from achieving its target at the end of the season.

He expressed optimism that Governor Sullivan Chime would the players’ before exit from office on May 29.

“The only problem we have now is that government is yet to pay the players for two months now but we are not the only state this is happening to.

“However, I am with them (players) all the time to motivate them with the little I have, especially now that the subvention is not forthcoming.

“Apart from their two months’ salary, the players are not lacking anything in camp; they are feeding very well and also getting other incentives.

“Part of the motivation is the N300, 000 I gave them when they played Wiki in Bauchi last week.

“Currently, every match they play and win, I pay them their bonuses; there is a stated amount that everybody receives whenever the team wins away or at home.’’

Ozor said that the team would depend on the incoming Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to clear the debt if the present governor failed to pay before leaving office.

“This is because the last time he (Ugwuanyi) visited the team’s camp, he donated N2 million to the team.

“He promised the players that he will be present at match venues to cheer them up because he wants to partner the team very well.’’

According to him, Rangers will not underrate any team, whether in the federation cup or the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), to ensure it achieves its target.

He said that the outcome of Rangers May 17 NPFL encounter against Shooting Stars FC in Ibadan would contribute in defining the fate of the team this season.

He said that the team had rediscovered itself after its initial cohesion challenge.

Ozor said that the cohesion among the old and new players, which was part of the team’s challenge at the beginning of the season, had now been achieved. (NAN)
