ABUJA- Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has weighed in on Lagos State’s denial of the mass burial of EndSARS victims.
The Lagos State Government had debunked claims that it was planning to conduct a mass burial for the victims of the EndSARS massacre.
The government stated that the bodies to be buried were not recovered from Lekki Toll Gate instead they were retrieved from different parts of the state during and after the protests.
They described those perpetrating the news of the burial as “unscrupulous elements who are hell bent on disrupting the peace and tranquility of Lagos.”
Reacting, Ezekwesili berated the Lagos Government for disrespecting Lagosians in its response.
She insisted that it was unbecoming to say such words to people it voluntarily sought power to govern.
Speaking via Twitter, Ezekwesili wrote, “At least the @followlasg finally has a response for the public on this troubling confirmation that 103 citizens were killed during the #EndSARSMassacre .
“But, what manner of contrived response is this? Why this level of disrespect for the dignity of the lives of the people you voluntarily sought power to govern?
“How come it took the leak of @followlasg internal document titled Mass Burial of EndSARS victims for the @jidesanwoolu government to contrive this explanation on victims of that tragedy?
“This egregious response also comes almost 3 years since all reasonable citizens demanded @jidesanwoolu and @NigeriaGov @NGRPresident @Mbuhari @PoliceNG and @HQNigerianArmy to account for all that happened to citizens in the #EndSARSMassacre ?
“This cannot be the end of this saga. There is serious accountability required from our State and Federal Governments on #EndSARS and the CoViD19 palliativeGate.”
