Lagos – Mr Femi Odusanya, the spokesman, Mile 12 Market Traders’ Association, Lagos on Friday said the traders could not immediately relocate to Imota due to inadequate infrastructure there.
Odusanya told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the relocation to Imota would be subject to the state government’s provision of adequate infrastructure at Imota.
NAN recalls that Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode on March 3 ordered the closure of the market following a bloody clash among Agiliti residents in the area following a disagreement between some residents and a commercial motorcyclist.
Ambode said the closure of Mile 12 Market was to allow security operatives maintain peace in the area.
But on March 17, Ambode ordered that the market should be re-opened pending when the issues raised would have been addressed.
Odusanya said, “We have agreed with the government on the relocation of the market from its present location to Imota.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560”]
“We were told that a 30-acre of land between Ikorodu and Imota has been set aside for the market.
“However, the relocation is not going to be in the immediate since adequate consultations with relevant stakeholders must be done and required infrastructure needed to be put in place.”
Besides, he said the traders had promised to ensure security, peace, free-flow of traffic and hygiene in and around Mile 12 Market.
“To ensure we complied with the government’s directives, we have formed a 100-man-security team that will work with the police to ensure peace in the market and its environment.”
Odusanya commended the state government for reopening the market. (NAN)
