The reason for Nnamdi Kanu’s absence in court today has been made public.
Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor provided a reason for his absence at the end of hearing today.
Recall that Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja had adjourned the trial of the IPOB leader till January 18, 2022.
In her ruling, Justice Nyako also ordered DSS to allow Kanu to practice his faith, change his clothes, and be given the maximum possible comfort in the detention facility.
In a statement on Thursday issued after the court sitting, Ejimkaor said his client was not in court due to the decision of Justice Nyako and the DSS.
He stated the presiding judge and the secret police concluded that Kanu’s presence in court was not needed.
Ejimakor submitted that no security operative was present in court and around the premises, unlike previous proceedings.
He revealed that the court granted the Biafran leader the maximum possible comfort in the detention facility.
He said: “That he be allowed free practice of his Jewish faith including access to his Jewish religious materials. That the DSS obey all previous orders granted in the matter, including allowing Kanu any visitor of his choice.
“That Kanu be permitted, at his option, to mingle freely with other inmates or any other persons at the detention facility.”
