The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has explained the suspension of its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, citing actions that harmed the party’s interests, especially regarding political tensions in Rivers State.
The acting National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, from the Umar Damagum faction, confirmed that Ologunagba was suspended due to his involvement in anti-party activities. This included publicly encouraging participation in the Rivers State Local Government elections, despite the party’s opposition due to ongoing legal disputes. His stance reportedly clashed with the PDP’s official position during a politically tense time in the state.
Abdullahi stated in a press conference in Abuja that the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) voted on the suspension, with eight members supporting it and four opposing. He emphasized that Ologunagba’s actions violated party protocol, leading the NWC to act to preserve discipline and unity within the party.
The PDP also suspended its National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), for similar anti-party behavior. A special committee, led by Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, has been set up to investigate the allegations against both officials. Abdullahi stressed that the suspensions were not politically motivated but necessary to maintain party unity and discipline during internal conflicts.
