PANKSHIN (PLATEAU) – The management of Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau on Tuesday distributed 150 bags of rice to 1,600 widows and 200 physically challenged persons in in Pankshin.
Chairman of the council, Mr Samuel Goar, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the gesture was to show love and care to the needy during Christmas.
“This is Christmas, a period to show love to people around us, we feel that widows and the physically challenged be touched by our warm love and care.
“We hope this will help to restore the disappearing smiles on your faces because it is a mark of love and kindness demonstrated to us by God Almighty’’, he said.
Goar called on the widows to give thanks to God who made it possible for the council to extend such gesture to them at Christmas.
Rev. Michael Istifanus of COCIN in Pankshin, described the event as biblical and wonderful and worthy of emulation by all and sundry in the society.
The cleric said Christmas was a period to show love, especially to the needy and loved ones in compliance with biblical injunctions.
He said that God, who sacrificed his only begotten son, Jesus Christ for mankind’s sake had shown us good example to emulate.
Mrs Juliana Dimlong, on behalf of the widows, thanked the council’s chairman and his management team for the gesture, which she described as “very pleasing.’’
Dimlong prayed to God to bless the council’s management and Plateau Government and Nigeria. (NAN)
