Port Harcourt – Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers on Tuesday, inaugurated the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Old Port Harcourt Township roads in in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the multi billion naira roads project to be reconstructed and rehabilitated include, Captain Amangala, Bishop Johnson, Bonny, Creek road, Rumuola among others.
The governor said the project was in fulfillment of the electoral promises he made to provide quality roads for the people of Port Harcourt Local Government Area.
He solicited the support of residents to enable his administration succeed in the provision of infrastructure, and social amenities, promising that he will not fail them, as they did not fail him during the last elections.
The governor said he would always do his best to identify with the problems of the people and to proffer solutions to them.
He, however, urged residents to support and cooperate with Julius Berger Nigeria Limited, the company handling the road reconstruction and rehabilitation, to enable it complete the job on schedule.
Wike said the state needed new roads, for expansion purposes especially to mark the golden jubilee anniversary of the state.
In his remarks, Mr Christian Chiokwa, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of PHALGA, pledged the support and loyalty of the people of the area.
He commended the governor for the previous rehabilitation work of some of the roads in the area as part of the ‘Operation Zero Pothole Programme’ of the government.
The chairman,. while expressing the gratitude of the people, said that the people had never had it so good from past administrations in the state.
The state Commissioner for Works, Mr Harrison Bathuel, listed the numerous economic importance of some of the roads.
He noted that on completion, the roads would rekindle the economic and commercial life of the area, hence creating wealth for them to survive and access to farms.
