PORT HARCOURT (Sundiata Post) – The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said its attention has been drawn to a statement by Governor Nyesom Wike on Monday in which the governor xxpressed shock that there was a “plot to reverse the gains made by the state in the promotion of security of lives and property through the re-posting of compromised police officers back to the state.”
The APC in a statement signed by its spokesman, Senibo Chris Finebone, said “we are still at a loss whether the governor made this statement and if he truly did so, then he qualifies to be the greatest living soul in the art of fantasy and make-believe.”
The statement noted that the Rivers people in particular and Nigerians generally knew that Governor Wike’s strategy for political survival was to “purchase and pocket the police, other security agencies and the judiciary”, adding that examples of his escapades abound for all to see.
Continuing, the party said it believed that the assertion was a sign of frustration after his pact with the former
Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase to plant a Police
Commissioner in Rivers State to do the governor’s bidding collapsed as
a result of the work of providence, and maintained that “it is on record that specific senior police officers that are at Wike’s beck and call in Rivers State who were recently posted out of the state
have started finding their way back. The governor is simply crying wolf to cover his ignominious tracks.”
The party further said “Governor Nyesom Wike cannot talk about security architecture for Rivers State when his dismantling of the near perfect security arrangement the former governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi put in place has since resulted into the present security basket case in Rivers State.”
According to the APC, Wike actually intended to quarrel with the efforts by the Police to alter the ‘insecurity architecture’ he deliberately installed in Rivers State, alleging that it was the governor who dismantled the Israeli-trained C4i unit that banished kidnapping and other dangerous crimes in Rivers State during Amaechi’s administration.
“It is on record that the governor has now realised that he cannot
rein in his creation that has become classical Frankenstein monster. His recent cosmetic attempts to appear to be fighting criminality is lonly to fool the public while the real motive is to compensate his private armies across Rivers State and prepare them for the
forthcoming rerun elections,” the APC declared.
The APC called on the new Inspector-General of Police and other
security chiefs to ignore Wike’s antics by ensuring that his mafia-type strangle-hold on the Nigeria Police and other security sgencies is finally broken and laid to rest.
In a related development, the Rivers APC has denied planning to cause the arrest of PDP leaders in Rivers State as the
forthcoming rerun elections approach as alleged by the PDP at a press
conference on Monday.
“The APC is a political party and therefore has nothing to do with
security matters. That is the duty of security agencies. No one or political party should connect the APC to such matters under any circumstances,” the APC said.
It recalled that the PDP has made such
spurious claims in the past especially before the last rerun elections on March 19, 2016 but no such things happened.
“We suspect that this is a red herring by the PDP to conceal or divert attention from some insidious and mischievous plans by the PDP and the Rivers State Government to undermine the forthcoming rerun elections,” the APC declared.
The APC called on Rivers people to be alert to the tricks of the PDP and reject them on July 30, as the party equally called on security agencies especially the Nigeria Police not to allow themselves to be blackmailed by the antics of Wike and his party, the PDP.
