ABUJA – The outgoing Minister of State for Education, Mr Nyesom Wike, has urged journalists to balance their reports when writing about activities of the Federal Government.
Wike, who gave the advice at a farewell meeting with education correspondents on Friday in Abuja, thanked them for their support during his tenure.
He told the correspondents that he had resigned his appointment and would cease to be a minister from Oct. 20.
“I thank you for all your reports both negative and positive; no sacrifice is too much in moving this nation forward.
“While we bring out the negative things about the government, it is important for us to also bring out the good things so that the people will know what the government is doing.’’
He said that the Federal Government had done well in the education sector, adding that it was difficult for him to quit but he had to pursue other goals for the service of his people.
Wike , who said that President Goodluck Jonathan was committed in moving the education sector forward, appealed to the media to give him support.
According to him, the government of President Goodluck Jonathan is the first to give proper attention to the issue of “almajiri’’ and girl-child education.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr MacJohn Nwaobiala, said that the ministry would miss the outgoing minister.
