ABUJA – Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi on Wednesday in Abuja fell 0-3 to Supreme Court FC in a Week 19 match of the 2013/2014 season in the Nigeria National League (NNL).
In the match played at the Area 3 Sports Complex, the Supreme Court FC side proved too strong for the visiting Bauchi-based team even as they missed many scoring chances.
The first half of the encounter saw the hosts dominating play without getting anything to show for it in the first 30 minutes.
They were, however, able to break the deadlock through a counter-attack in the 41st minute, when Samson Folorunsho tapped in a pullout from Eric Eric.
The Abuja-based team continued their game dominance in the second half as the visitors only got few chances which they found difficult to convert.
However, in the 66th minute, Eric increased the tally when he converted a spot kick after Folorunsho was fouled in the box.
Eric failed to seal his team’s victory in the 88th minute when he could not convert the second penalty kick awarded to them.
This was after Wikki Tourists’ captain Christopher Waziri had handled the ball in the penalty area.
But, a minute later, Friday Jacob got the third goal for Supreme Court FC from a rebound.
Speaking after the match, Wikki Tourists’ coach Tunde Abdulrahman told newsmen that his team lost because majority of his players were fasting and that the team’s defenders lost concentration.
“We lost because this is the first match we will be playing since the fasting period started.
“Also, my defenders lost concentration in the course of the match, especially in the second half.[eap_ad_2]
“But even with our loss today (Wednesday) and in spite of the pressure from Kwara United who are right behind us and also won their match, we still lead by two points.
“So, if we can maintain winning our home matches and getting at least a draw in away matches, we are good to go in gaining promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL),’’ he said.
Supreme Court FC coach, Fatai Osho, said the win was a good step to achieving the club’s target of gaining promotion to the NPFL.
“The win this (Wednesday) evening is a good step to achieving our target and I am sure that, once we continue this way with the number of matches left, we will scale through.
“If we can win our remaining home matches and get two or three wins away from home, we will be sure of a ticket to the NPFL,” Osho said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Wikki Tourists still top the table in spite of the loss, with 35 points from 19 matches.
On the other hand, Supreme Court FC occupy the ninth position with 26 points from 19 matches. (NAN)
