LAGOS – A housewife, Olufunmilola Ogunmuyiwa, charged with the murder of her husband, Dare Ogunmuyiwa, was on Monday remanded in prison by an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, in Lagos.
Olufunmilola, who resides at No. 18, Olusoga Street, Lagos, was said to have stabbed her husband on the neck with an object, causing him to bleed to death.
The magistrate, Mr K.O. Ogundare, remanded the woman at the Ikoyi Prisons while awaiting the advice of the state’s Director of Public Prosecution.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Cousin Adams, had told the court that the offence was committed at about 10.00 a.m. on Jan.12, at the residence of the accused.
Adams said that the accused and the deceased were always quarrelling and fighting, adding that the regular squabble between them led the woman to move to her father’s house.
“The deceased visited the accused because she was said to be ill and there, they had a misunderstanding.
“The accused stabbed the deceased on his neck with an undisclosed sharp object which led to the death of the deceased,’’ he told the court.
He said that after stabbing her husband, the accused screamed for help and her neighbours rushed the deceased to the hospital and later reported the case to the police.
The offence, Adams said, contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 221 prescribes a death penalty for convicted felons.
No plea was taken from the accused. (NAN)
