Badagry – A 42-year-old woman, Mercy Adegunloye, on Thursday appeared in a Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos State for allegedly attempting to defraud the Priest of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Ajara Topa, Badagry.
The police charged Adegunloye, with two counts of attempt to defraud and breach of peace.
The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Clement Okoimose told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 8, at about 10 a.m. in the premises of Holy Family Catholic Church Ajara Topa, Badagry, Lagos.
Okoimose said that defendant attempted to defraud the Priest of the Church, Rev. Father Michael Oyedan and members of the church by presenting a letter purportedly written by one Gabriel Jombo who claimed to had pledged to supply diesel, worth N45, 000.
‘The defendant also conducted herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by entering the church premises and instigated members of the public against the Rev. Father Oyedan, Mr Slade Abimbola and others,” he said.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 409 and 166 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.’’
The Magistrate, Mr Lazarus Hotepo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until June 4 for mention.
