ILORIN – A businesswoman, Jekemi Oluremi, 44, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, on a one-count charge of issuing N3 million dud cheque.
Oluremi, a Director of Roman J. Ltd, opposite Sure Door, Ajase-Ipo Road, Ilorin, however, denied committing the offence.
The prosecutor, Insp. James Wodi told the court that Oluremi committed the offence sometime in June 2013.
Wodi said that the accused, a dealer in GSM recharge vouchers, collected vouchers and cards to the tune of N3 million from one Mr Adekoya Oguntuyi.
The prosecutor said that Oluremi promised to pay for the goods from proceeds of the sales on monthly installments.
“The parties to the agreement agreed on N210,000 every month,’’ he said.
Wodi said that after paying for three months, the accused breached terms of the agreement, and failed to pay the monthly installment.
He said that later Oluremi issued a UBA cheque of N3million, drawn on the name of Oguntuyi, but when it was presented at the bank, the cheque was returned due to insufficient funds in the account.
The prosecutor said that the accused purposely issued the cheque with the knowledge that she did not have such amount in her account.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Adeyanju granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Dec. 20. (NAN)
