MARARABA – An unemployed woman, Esther Musa, 18, of Masaka in Nasarawa State on Friday dragged her lover one Mustapha Shaibu, 29, to court for impregnating her.
Shuaibu, who also resides in Masaka, is facing a count charge of cheating at the Grade 1 Area Court at Aso Pada in Mararaba, near Abuja.
Musa told the court that the accused had been her lover for close to 19 months and was responsible for her three-month-old pregnancy.
“He is my lover, and I am three months pregnant for him. He has abandoned me and is dating another girl in Masaka.
“I am not working and he is not taking care of me again. I feel he has cheated me, that is why I come to the court,” she submitted.
In his response, Shuaibu, who said he lost his job last month, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The accused, however, accepted responsibility for the pregnancy.
He said: “I am responsible for the pregnancy but I did not cheat her
“She told me that her rent has expired and would not want to stay in the same area again. I then pleaded with her to give me time to do that, I still love her,” he stated.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Albert Maga, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum.
Maga said that the surety must be a responsible citizen with landed property and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He ordered the surety to write an undertaking that the accused would not harass or intimidate the complainant, pending the determination of the case.
Maga adjourned the case until June 26 for hearing. (NAN)
