Okitipupa – A 45-year-old business woman, Morenike Akinsemoyin, on Tuesday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State over alleged N350,000 fraud.
The defendant of no fixed address was docked on a two-count charge bordering on advance fee fraud and conversion of other people’s property to personal use.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant on Oct. 2, 2018, around 10:00 a.m. at Okitipupa main market obtained N350,000 from Mode Akinleye, under the pretence of supplying some foodstuff.
He said that the defendant failed to supply the 20bags of rice, 15 bags of beans, 15 bags of cassava flour and other foodstuff as promised and converted the money to her personal use.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 419 and 383 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, while Chief Magistrate Dickson Ogunfuyi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 and a surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until Jan. 29 for further hearing.
